The Great Kindness Challenge is a proactive and positive bullying prevention initiative that improves school climate and increases student engagement. Waterloo's Goal for the challenge is to record 8,000 acts of kindness in 4 days! The GKC is an engagement activity that fosters a respectful school culture. At Waterloo Elementary School, we want to ensure that our “culture and climate are supportive and nurturing, and provide a safe and healthy environment for all” (HCPSS Strategic Call to Action). Each student will be given a pink Great Kindness Challenge checklist. He/she should check off kind acts as they are completed throughout the week. Students are not required to complete all of the activities in order to participate in the challenge. They are also allowed and encouraged to repeat acts of kindness and get creative with new kind ideas! At the end of our event, we will count up the number of kind acts completed at Waterloo Elementary from February 3rd- 7th. Last year, our school finished with over 7,000 acts of kindness… amazing! We are looking forward to our fourth year of a successful kindness challenge! All checklists are due back to your classroom teachers by Tuesday, February 11th.
Monday (February 3rd) is Kicking off Kindness. We will kick off kindness by wearing crazy socks or mis-match socks and/or shoes.
Tuesday (February 4th) is Community Kindness Day. Since we are off school today for Election Day, we are encouraging actis of kindness in our homes and communities.
Wednesday (February 5th) is Ride the Wave of Kindness. We will ride the wave of kindness by wearing clothes with a Hawaiian/beach motif (clothing with flowers/beach colors, water scenes, etc)
Thursday (February 6th) is Dreaming of Kindness. We can dream of kindness and make it our reality by wearing pajamas, or comfy clothing to school.
Friday is (February 7th) Make Kindness a Pattern. We will pledge to make kindness a pattern this school year by wearing any clothes with patterns (polka dots, stripes, plaid, etc.)
Let's work as a school to spread kindness!!!
